Former Maryland Governor Joins National Strategies
Former Maryland Governor Parris Glendening has joined National Strategies, a strategic business development and marketing company based in Washington, as a senior adviser for environmental and energy issues.
Though Glendening will not be doing any direct lobbying, he will work with clients to develop legislative strategies for implementing energy and environmental programs that reduce carbon emissions at the state and local level.
Al Gordon, the firm’s chief executive officer, says that 12 states have passed climate change plans recently that set goals for reducing carbon emissions and another 25 states are working on creating similar plans.
“These states are going to be looking for a lot of help,” Gordon says. “Governor Glendening is a leader in that field. He not only has a vision for it, but he has been doing concrete things to get things done.”
Glendening, a Democratic governor of Maryland from 1995 to 2003, implemented a Smart Growth And Neighborhood Conservation Initiative that worked to preserve existing open spaces, protect natural resources, and reinvigorate communities.
