Gustav Downgraded: Hurricane Gustav, which did not hit New Orleans as hard as originally anticipated, has weakened to a tropical depression according to The Washington Post. Nevertheless, the storm flooded several areas in coastal Louisiana and parts of Mississippi and has left hundreds of thousands in the Gulf Coast area without power.
Palin's Daughter is Pregnant: According to The New York Times, Gov. Sarah Palin announced yesterday that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant. The announcement comes days after Sen. John McCain chose Palin as his running mate.
More Civil Cases: A recent report of federal court statistics found the number of civil cases that went to trial in U.S. District Courts in 2007 is up from 2004 to about 10,000. The American Lawyer, via Law.com, reports that a significant number of those trials are happening in Louisiana.
