Working Mother Magazine Recognizes D.C. Firms

Working Mother magazine has released its second annual list of the top 50 best law firms for women. Working Mother creates the list with Flex-Time Lawyers, a national consulting firm that advises firms on work-life balance issues.

Included in this year’s top 50 are several Washington-based firms: Arent fox, Arnold & Porter, Covington & Burling, Hogan & Hartson, Miller & Chevalier, Patton Boggs, Steptoe & Johnson, and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.

Antonia Ianniello is one of three women elected to serve on Steptoe’s executive committee. Eight committee members are elected. She also chairs the firm’s insurance practice. She says Steptoe was selected in part because of its long history of developing female attorneys. She joined the firm 26 years ago, and says even then, she was attracted to Steptoe’s relatively high percentage of women associates and partners. Today, Ianniello co-chairs Steptoe’s Women’s Forum, which focuses on mentoring younger women lawyers, and hosts discussions on work-life balance issues, business development, and other topics.

According to the magazine, all of the firms were evaluated on a number of factors, including family-friendly benefits and policies, work schedule flexibility, compensation, and advancement and retention of women.

Gov Palin was a great choice for the Republican Vice President. Women's groups: NOW, Women's Political Caucus etc evidently have not done a super job in educating or convincing the opponent men and women that in fact a woman such as Palin can do this job! Set us women back to the suffrage era AND I suppose some of these same Palin opponents would support that only men vote????
