David Ransom, senior adviser to U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), will join McDermott Will & Emery's D.C. office on Aug. 18 as legislative counsel. Ransom will report to Stephen Ryan, head of the government strategies practice group, and work on a wide range of issues.
Ryan and Jim Datri, another partner with McDermott, approached Ransom earlier this year about potentially joining the firm. After spending nine years with Hoyer, Ransom said the timing of the move made sense because the Democrats are “well-positioned and poised to make gains” in the House. “At this point, I’ve been out of law school for 16 years now. I think it’s a natural progression,” Ransom said.
Although satisfied with his decision, Ransom did not rule out a possible return to government in the future: “I think this is going to be a positive, exciting experience, but there’s always possibility. But I’m not focused on that right now.”
