Goodbye, 80 Percent

Exxon may be happy about the Supreme Court's ruling in the punitive damages case, but the plaintiffs' lawyers are not. Today the firms that sued after the Exxon Valdez oil spill saw their potential fees slashed by 80 percent (down to nearly $188 million).

Faegre & Benson partner Brian O'Neill, one of the lead attorneys for the plaintiffs, called the ruling "unfair." The American Lawyer has more details here.
