Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll Forms Distressed Real Estate Team
Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll has formed a distressed real estate team to help clients facing issues stemming from the current downturn in the real estate markets.
The team, which is composed of 16 core attorneys in 10 offices nationwide, was formed a few months ago in anticipation of an influx of developers and lenders seeking legal advice on distressed real estate, says Joseph Bellinger Jr., a partner in the firm’s Baltimore office and member of the team.
“We are on the cusp right now,” Bellinger says. “The exciting questions are when is it going to happen, and how long is it going to go on?”
Though the firm is still letting the dust settle on how many lawyers will actually participate, Bellinger says he and other members of the team have already seen some cases come in relating to distressed real estate. The team will also bring in outside consultants to help address clients needs.
“What this is an example of is lawyers starting to think like their clients,” he says.
