Joe Whitley, a partner in Alston & Bird's Washington and Atlanta offices, has jumped ship to Greenberg Traurig.
Whitley, a former general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security and an ex-high ranking Justice Department official, headed Alston & Bird's government investigations and compliance group.
Also a former U.S. attorney for the middle and northern districts of Georgia, Whitley also help lead the firm's global security and enforcement team.
As of today, Whitley joins Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in its Atlanta and Washington offices.
From 2003 to 2005, Whitley served as DHS' first general counsel and previously also was an acting associate attorney general at Main Justice under President George H.W. Bush.
