A long-rumored New York Times story on Sen. John McCain's ties to a telecom lobbyist, published last night, is drawing sharp rebuttals from the Republican front-runner's campaign, and the impact is not yet clear.
At a news conference today, McCain denied having a romantic relationship with Alcalde & Fay's Vicki Iseman, and said he hasn't shown favoritism to her clients The Washington Post reports.
Iseman, in an e-mail to the Times, denied any inappropriate relationship. Check out her profile at the Influence web site here and Alcalde & Fay's profile here. Her client list includes Ion Media Networks, CACI Inc., Bearing Point and 12 Telecom. Alcalde & Fay's web page touts Iseman's "extensive experience in telecommunications, representing corporations before the House and Senate Commerce Committees."
McCain has long touted his role in campaign finance reform and investigating the Abramoff scandal, and has stressed his independence from lobbyists throughout the campaign.
