Lynne Cheney, the vice president’s wife and longtime author, appeared over the weekend on NPR’s quiz show “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me” to help promote her new book Blue Skies, No Fences: A Memoir of Childhood and Family. (For audio of the appearance, go here.)
The book reveals how Cheney met her husband, a few details about their courtship, and perhaps more importantly, chronicles her days as a teenage champion baton twirler.
That’s right: baton twirler.
It’s not exactly Second Lady-like behavior, she acknowledged to “Wait, Wait’s” host Peter Sagal. And Cheney said she hid her talent for years.
But she gained an extremely surprising source of confidence that helped her gain the courage to reveal her secret.
“I did gain a great deal of comfort…when I learned Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a baton twirler.”
Justice Ginsburg on the batons? That’s not something Ginsburg revealed when she talked to our Debra Bruno about her early days in the law for this week’s Legal Times.
Actually, Ginsburg didn’t reveal it to Cheney either. After “Wait, Wait’s” panel of guests gasped, Cheney fessed up: "This is called bluff the host."

According to US News and World Report, Justice Ginsberg did twirl batons:
