Washington lawyers Peter Grenier and Douglas Fierberg, both of the D.C. firm Bode & Grenier, have been retained by relatives of seven of the Virginia Tech massacre victims, the WaPo reports. The firm specializes in wrongful death cases.
There’s been a lot of speculation that a legal battle between the state of Virginia and the families of those killed by Seung Hui Cho on his April 16th rampage was inevitable. Grenier and Fierberg say the families are in fact considering filing wrongful death claims and a federal civil rights claim against the state, making the possibility of a pricey, lengthy fight very real.
Last week, a panel appointed by Gov. Timothy Kaine issued its final report, which concluded that the massacre was unavoidable, as Cho was determined to carry it out. However, it also noted that lives could have been saved had the university taken quicker action.
Grenier is no stranger to cases like this one. In 2001, he won a $1.5 million settlement against Jefferson County, Co. in a wrongful death case resulting from the Columbine High School shootings.

Hopefully this tragic event won't be refreshed into the minds of the families. I agree that he was determined to carry the act out making it not really wrongful. But I also think maybe the families should receive some compensation if there's evidence that some deaths could have been prevented if the University had taken some action sooner.
