In an effort to get to the truthiness, Google Inc. is hoping to depose Comedy Central Stars Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart as part of its defense against Viacom’s $1 billion copyright infringement suit -- Here's the Guardian's write up. The case, which hinges on whether Google’s You-Tube intentionally made itself a haven for copyrighted content, including the two men's shows, might clear up what user-driven media outlets have to do to stay above the law. (One thing the BLT notes: if you type "Colbert" and "YouTube" into Google, you still come up with live links to YouTube clips of the show).
Not all the depositions in the case should be as entertaining for the attorneys: Stewart and Colbert are among more than 30 people Google, Inc. wants to depose, including Viacom execs. Discovery is not set to be complete until December, 2008.
