Next stop for Gonzales?

During his brief press statement, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales indicated his career in public service will end when he leaves office Sep. 17. So where might Gonzales find his next job? An obvious possibility is Vinson & Elkins, where he was a partner before he started his public service in Texas with his friend George W. Bush. But if so, negotiations have not yet begun. Managing partner Joe Dilg issued a statement this morning that "There have been no discussions or communications" with Gonzales about a possible return to the firm. Gonzales was sighted at the firm's Houston offices several months ago, but it turned out he was there in connection with the funeral of a former partner.
