The Huntington Beach City Council approved a ban on public nudity after the shenanigans of local resident Miguel Angelo Ferreira, a.k.a. the Naked Man. With an alias like that why even bother with a regular name?
According to the police chief, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound man's public display was increasingly problematic because he lived in close proximity to major tourist sites. It seems Huntington left the Naked Man out of the brochure much to the chagrin of families searching for a beach vacation rather than bizarre peep show.
The Naked Man did not violate the indecent exposure laws previously in place thus had been allowed to wander around in public. Indecent exposure requires proof that the nudity is sexually charged and Naked Man just wandered his property Full Monty. This may not be the end of nudity disputes to face the city council. The mayor raised the question of people changing swimsuits behind a towel. Next up, banning the suggestion of nudity?
