John Edwards: Another fine choice for Democratic lobbyists on a tight budget.
On Tuesday, the Edwards campaign announced that it had returned the checks of three registered lobbyists who put their money where their mouth is. The three men, identified as lobbyists for the Service Employees International Union, The Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition, and Cablevision Systems Corp, got a whopping combined refund of $3,400, the AP reports.
Barack Obama, who has already pledged not to accept any special interest money, returned $50,000 of similar donations in April. Democratic lobbyists who'd like to donate money to a top candidate -- and make sure it damn well stays donated -- might want to focus on Hillary Clinton.
Still, even if Edwards didn't keep the cash, don't think he came away empty-handed:
"Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, who reiterated his commitment Tuesday to never accept campaign donations from special interest groups, has returned thousands of dollars from lobbyists."
That was the lead in today’s AP story, which Google News lists as having been run by 84 news outlets and counting. That kind of pub has got to be worth three-and-a-half grand, right?
