D.C. police detectives and local prosecutors will hold individual meetings tomorrow with family members of murder victims in cold-case homicides which occured in 2003 and earlier years. Family members will learn the current status of the cases and discuss any new leads. (Next of kin who call now for an appointment will be given a future interview date because detectives must first research the case.)
In other MPD news, Police Chief Cathy Lanier issued a statement over a brouhaha from D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham about her realignment of the department's specialized gay and lesbian, Latino and Asian units. All of the units are now headquartered in Northwest D.C., where Graham's Ward One is located, and the gay and lesbian community has expressed some concerns to Graham, who also is gay, about the fate of that unit. Lanier says she isn't dissolving the units but is expanding their reach because the District "is fortunate to have a diverse population that is not clustered in any one segment of the city." It makes sense to the BLT.
