Edwards Campaign Silent On Arrested Fundraiser

Political candidates rely on people of all stripes to build their war chest. That came to a head last weekend when one of former Sen. John Edwards’ (D-N.C.) fundraisers was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.

Chris Albrecht, chairman and CEO of HBO was arrested last Sunday in Las Vegas on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend. Albrecht was one of Edwards’ 431 “solicitors,” or bundlers who gather checks from individuals for the campaign. Besides raising money, Albrecht had personally given $2,300 to Edwards. Albrecht was forced to resign his position with the company. So far, the Edwards campaign has stayed mum on Albrecht.

This isn’t the first time Edwards has faced issues with its fundraisers. During the 2004 race, Edwards returned $10,000 of the money that an Arkansas trial lawyer firm Turner & Associates donated to him after after being told that people at the firm expected it to reimburse them for donations to the campaign.
