Following up on this post from last week, the Indians participated last night in Major League Baseball's first Civil Rights Game, an exhibition with the Cardinals in Memphis that was meant to spotlight the contribution of African-Americans to the game. As you might imagine, some people aren't thrilled with the idea that a team with a logo like Cleveland's would play in such a game.
Here's a post from the Deadspin sports blog that lays it out, as well as a column in the New York Daily News. Interestingly, the Indians wore generic uniforms for the game that didnt feature the Wahoo logo. MLB said that was to honor the spirit of the Negro Leagues, but you have to wonder. Not so interestingly, the Indians lost, 5-1, setting the stage for the start of another stomach-churning season.
